Is there another registrar that offers something I won’t get with CF? I don’t care mush about price because $2-20/year anywhere in there doesn’t make any difference to me. I have set up a raspi with home assistant and started using cloudflare tunnels, which are almost too easy to set up. Now I do have some basic networking knowledge but I simply struggle to understand what a cloudflare tunnel is exactly. I don’t doubt you got something demonstrated, but I doubt that it was what you think it was, or is applicable to the public internet.
This is just straight up bullshit, the reason why your so called “surveillance and censorship” is possible is because Discord allows bots to exist. Bots behave just like a normal account, except they can be automated for example to respond in a way to certain messages, log messages, user activity and so on. There’s a ToS for bot usage, which states that logging user data without notifying the user or allowing them to opt out is strictly illegal. What you can do against it is either don’t join or message in that particular discord server.
What is Cloudflare used for? Cloudflare Services
If you want to stop people from accessing it then everyone should file a complaint so that it could be brought down. Hey /u/Fatherlorris I noticed that whenever you post a new comic, your site loads like s… I hate pedos , but I don’t really understand what it has to do with KIA as we have no power over 8chan or ownership. They will just quit the free service the moment they decide you need to. If you get enough traffic I give a good bet that the sales department starts mailing you. What is usually the bigger problem is that PIs can be access by wrong people (e.g. I log in and see your PI).
- Reddit, one of the most popular social news and discussion websites on the internet, has been facing numerous issues with its scalability and performance.
- With millions of users and millions of posts, the website is prone to experiencing downtime, high latency, and security breaches.
- You can set how long each type of / specific resources should be cached.
- In a nutshell, Cloudflare sits between your website and its visitors, acting as a sort of gatekeeper.
What kind of Experience do you want to share?
Cloudflare is one of the world’s largest connectivity cloud networks ↗. Today, anyone with an Internet presence can have faster and more secure websites and applications thanks to Cloudflare. They offer two services – one, you (the hosted company) share your private key with them; two, you provide separately authenticated access to your private key via a key server. One of Cloudflare’s most notable features is its protection against robots performing distributed denial-of-service (DDoS).
In 2016, Cloudflare announced its partnership with Reddit, the popular social news and discussion website, to provide its services to improve the performance, security, and reliability of Reddit. The partnership aimed to enhance the user experience on Reddit by reducing latency, increasing availability, and mitigating the risk of security breaches. I’m still very much new in my selfhosted journey and have thus far been using services on my local LAN and connecting to my server via Tailscale when I want remote access to services. I’m behind a double CGNAT, so I have had limited success exposing services to the public internet to access remotely with a domain or to share with friends/family. Cloudflare is a powerful tool that can help you enhance the performance, security, and reliability of your site. It’s most used features are it’s content delivery network (CDN) which is essentially a free web caching service and it’s free DDoS mitigation.
- They really don’t give much attention if your traffic is not that much.
- You can submit the same notice to the Cloudflare, the host and directly to the website.
- When you get a lot of traffic from reddit, it tends to take websites down – just fyi, so your site isn’t down with the attention here.
- They don’t limit bandwidth but I heard some people get temporary banned for serving binary content (Plex).
You also get a very powerful DDoS protection and security overall. And the best part of it is that all of this is completely free. The DNS for those websites is also routed through Cloudflare which is a global content delivery network. They are pretty good at putting pressure on web providers who abuse their platform. I’ve reported a few legit Pishing and Malware sites in the past and they shut them down within hours. Cloudflare is just one of many CDNs used by companies and websites worldwide; however, its widespread presence on many websites has made it one of the most well-known among regular internet users.
Is it safe to allow open access via Cloudflare Tunnel to selfhosted apps on a Docker net?
You might also be on a shared network with other people who may have had suspicious activity in the past. If you take advantage of public networks, such as those at a school or Action airbus library, you may be on the same IP address as others who are suspicious. Cloudflare protects against DDoS attacks by automatically blocking suspicious-looking traffic, especially traffic that may come from a non-human source. These methods can usually tell the difference between a machine or a real person trying to access a website.
And this is already one major aspect, that led to Cloudflares popularity – the DDoS protection. But to effectively protect them they need to do a https inspection. I compare it to a man-in-the-middle attack because they need to decrypt the SSL-encrypted network traffic and then encrypt it again. They empower so many websites and they do great in performance optimization and DDoS protection.
Transferring domain to Cloudflare
This just means their SSL certificate is out of date and they need to update it. Nothing that they already have can be leaked, only whatever you may input/bring up while they have no certificate if say there was somebody malignant redirecting or listening to that data, which is unlikely. Just don’t visit the site while they didn’t update their cert. Then you never have to worry about this on accident (reddit hug) or on purpose (ddos). You can’t set up a self-hosted solution that works like Clouldflare, at least not without spending a boatload of money.
What is cloudflare Reddit?
The answer to all your questions and all the security issues is by dropping in CloudFlare in front of your domain. Gives you DNS that propagates within seconds, masks your networks public IP behind their servers and supports dynamic IP addresses. Since you’re on a home network the speed is definitely not on a server provider level, but most of your assets will be cached by CloudFlare and served directly from their high bandwidth servers.

I don’t think it’s right to encourage people use cloudflare in their Plex setup. Normally that screen looks like this (I got that straight from the CloudFlare website as you can tell by the URL). It looks like CloudFlare may not be selling your userdata (or explicitly naming you as the one using it), but it does look like they are giving it away for free in the form of aggregate data. Because huge sites can’t be run from a basement in Romania? A CDN is just one part of the infrastructure necessary to support a large web presence. In a nutshell, Cloudflare sits between your website and its visitors, acting as a sort of gatekeeper.
So we’ve addressed why Cloudflare might ask you to complete a CAPTCHA to prove that you’re a human being browsing the internet. If you’re constantly seeing it, are you coming across as suspicious? Yes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing anything wrong. Even more shockingly, the overage calculations used total usage instead of billable usage, directly contradicting Cloudflare’s own billing hombro cabeza hombro trading documentation and even the data shared by Cloudflare team itself. Reason for this stupidity – Our account did not have an AE attached for a few months, and hence the billing was missed, which is entirely laughable for a company size of Cloudflare.
They’re very good at it, and they’re getting better with every attack they see. Great information, but I think you need to feed the hamsters that are powering your host. But externally, aafx trading bot-based accounts performing a DDoS is one of the hardest to defend against. Even though the company may be up, access would be blocked.
